TRANSITION SERVICES FOR STUDENTS ON AN IEP OR 504 PLAN
SCPS TRANSITION PROGRAMS Programs provided by the Transition Department are specially designed to meet the needs of students in Seminole County. Each program plays a key role in helping support SCPS students as they transition through school and beyond. SCPS students have a variety of interests and goals. Through these programs students are able to explore, prepare, and develop essential skills to help them be successful as they transition to adulthood. SCPS Transition Program Options
DIVISION OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state program that helps people who have physical or mental disabilities get or keep a job. VR is committed to helping people with disabilities find meaningful careers. They offer a wide variety of services for students with disabilities. Vocational Rehabilitation Website
TRADITIONAL VR SERVICES Traditional referral form takes 60 days to determine eligibility, and 90 days to write the plan for services (called the IPE) = TOTAL 150 days. Family is first invited by VR to Mandatory orientation at the Winter Park office. Then VR will schedule a meeting with the family to complete the application process. Who can participate? Students with disabilities ages 14-21 who are currently enrolled in school. Adults can also apply for VR services after exiting high school. Can access Pre-ETS services. Can access services with other agencies. Can access services after high school. Referrals will be turned into IEP case managers or guidance counselors for 504 Students.
PRE-ETS REFERRALS No eligibility determination is required for Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS). Students can receive these services without an official orientation and application process. Can access Pre-ETS services (Work Readiness, Self-Advocacy, Community Work Experiences (OJT s), Work Based Learning Experiences (WBLE). Can access these services directly from SCPS (now a Vendor of VR) or from outside employment agencies. For additional VR services after high school, students must switch to the traditional referral form and go through 150 day eligibility and plan writing process. Who can participate? Students with disabilities ages 14-21 who are currently enrolled in school.
SEMINOLE COUNTY PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRANSITION SERVICES (PRE-ETS) Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) help students with disabilities advocate for themselves in the workplace, prepare for employment and gain real- world work experience. SCPS Pre-ETS Website
TRANSITION RESOURCES HIGH SCHOOL Project 10: Transition Education Network The mission of Project 10 is to provide secondary transition services to students with disabilities in order to improve their academic success and post- school outcomes. http://project10.info/Documents/Secondary_Transition_Roadmap_Updated.pdf Guardianship An 18-year-old is an adult and presumed to be able to handle his or her own affairs unless a legal proceeding gives some or all the responsibility for him or her to a parent or guardian.
