Background Information The Case A.B. by and through Trueblood v DSHS -- Trueblood Case challenged unconstitutional delays for competency evaluation and restoration resulting in: 7 days to admit for restoration 14 days to complete evaluation The Class Members Individuals detained in city and county jails awaiting competency services The Task Force Collaboration between Class Counsel, DSHS, Attorney General s Office and the Governor s Office 4

  7. Task Force Goals Propose changes to the system that will yield: Right services to the right people--Don t send people to the ICU for a paper cut!!! Right time and place Don t send people to the ICU for a paper cut!!! Appropriate community based care in the least restrictive settings Array of services available to match level of care needed Early intervention Coordination across systems Avoid jail and hospitalization when other treatment can meet needs Right outcomes Don t send people to the ICU for a paper cut!!! Define what shows us we are serving the right people in the right places and time Identify things that are already working and share Don t Send People to the ICU for a Papercut!!! 7
