  1. The Transcendent God Comes Near Isaiah 7:1-14

  2. The Transcendent God Comes Near QUESTION: In the midst of difficult circumstances, where do you go for strength, help and guidance? TRUTH: In all circumstances, the transcendent God can be trusted because He is faithful to be with us.

  3. Isaiah 7:1-2 In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but could not yet mount an attack against it. 2 When the house of David was told, Syria is in league with Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

  4. 2 Kings 16 Tiglath-pileser - king of Assyria Rezin - king of Syria + Pekah - king Israel Ahaz - king of Judah

  5. Isaiah 7:3 3 And the Lord said to Isaiah, Go out to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Washer's Field.

  6. Isaiah 7:4-6 4 And say to him, Be careful, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands, at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and the son of Remaliah. 5 Because Syria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has devised evil against you, saying, 6 Let us go up against Judah and terrify it, and let us conquer it for ourselves, and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,

  7. The Transcendent God Comes Near TRUTH: God is in control of the future and promises to meet you in your fears to help you. Be careful Be quiet (Isaiah 30:15) Do not fear (2 Samuel 7:16) Do not let your heart be faint (Deuteronomy 20:2-4)

  8. Isaiah 7:7-9 7 thus says the Lord God: It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass. 8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. And within sixty-five years Ephraim will be shattered from being a people. 9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you are not firm in faith, you will not be firm at all.

  9. Transcendent yet Immanent Thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite. Isaiah 57:15

  10. There is no book in the world which to the same extent and in the same way as the Holy Scripture supports the absolute transcendence of God above each and every creature and at the same time supports the intimate relationship between the creature and his Creator. Herman Bavinck

  11. Isaiah 7:10-12 10 Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz: 11 Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven. 12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.

  12. 2 Kings 16:2-5 He did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God like his ancestor David but walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even sacrificed his son in the fire, imitating the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had dispossessed before the Israelites. He sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree. Then Aram s King Rezin and Israel s King Pekah son of Remaliah came to wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged Ahaz but were not able to conquer him.

  13. Isaiah 7:13-14 13 And he said, Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. TRUTH: God has proven His faithfulness to us by coming near.

  14. The Transcendent God Comes Near Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am always with you, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20
