  6. PhD Charter: Qualifier A meeting during which the doctoral candidate is assessed, and it is decided whether: The research proposal is of a sufficient level and It is likely that the prospective doctoral candidate will complete his doctoral project within the remaining period. After a sucessful qualifier, you are asked to submit an appointment supervisor form. 7 20/08/2025

  7. PhD Charter: Annual interview The candidate writes a progress report of max. 2 pages with the results and (adjusted) planning as input for the annual assessments as part of the T&SP. The thesis supervisor records the assessment results in the doctoral monitoring system. This meeting is more broad. 8 20/08/2025

  9. Training & Supervision Plan (T&SP) Drafted together with promotor 3 months max. Will be checked by TGS education manager Written in tablets of stone? Contents: The daily supervision: who & how What is the research plan? What is the educational plan? What extra knowledge/skills are needed to carry out the work? How will these be acquired? Via courses or hand-on training? Skill development should take consider future career, not just PhD 10 20/08/2025

TGS Certificate Lists the 30ECs in courses and hands-on activities 30 ECs: 15 generic (+-5) + 15 discipline (+-5) 1 EC = 28 hours PhD level courses (MSc can be taken) No defence date until all the 30EC completion evidence is in Hora Finita and is checked by TGS and you have a manuscript in reasonable shape (your supervisor s call) Best not to plan courses during the last 6 months 11

Basic PhD Skills Block All 1styear candidates are expected to do this: TGS Introductory workshop includes academic integrity Academic Publishing bootcamp Academic Presentations bootcamp Data Management bootcamp (1 year deadline) Scientific Information bootcamp Basic research skills to perform well; exemptions possible (check the Doctoral Education Guidelines) Options A and B A: course led by expert trainers B: self study with practice and assessment by (co)promotors No Option B for Data Management.   23. MASTER COURSES 1 standard master course for broadening purposes (5 EC) Plus as many as needed (as long as the assignment is more complex). 1. Ask the lecturer if you can follow the course. 2. Ask the lecturer if they will give you a more complex final assignment and, 3.
