Updates from AY24-25 Course Courtesy Fee UCFA is in conversations with administration and is working to finalize a policy to present at Faculty Senate. We hope this work is finalized and will be sent to the UCFA for approval in Spring 2025. AY Faculty Summer Work UCFA prioritized the following 1. Retirement match 2. Working unpaid when supervising students On July 16, 2024, President Guskiewicz issued the following in a memo Effective Summer 2025, MSU will provide a university matching contribution (10%) toward retirement on AY summer salary earned by benefit-eligible AY faculty and academic staff during the non-duty summer period of May 16 through August 15. The subgroup is anticipated to deliver a report on what are considered compensable activities in the summer in Spring 2025. 2
Updates from AY24-25 Fixed-term Faculty Promotion A subcommittee empowered by UCFA, in collaboration with administration partners, is working to develop best practices for fixed-term faculty promotion. Committee leadership: Jamie Alan, Jennie Schaffer, Marilyn Amey, Sonja Fritzsche, and Kate Birdsall. Committee composition: John Clements, Laura Smith, Adam Roy, Sathyanara Sudhantanr, Victor Rodriguez-Pereira, Daryl McFadden, Kurt Richter, Cori Fata- Hartley, Nilay Kant, Mary Smith, Amanda Vasas, Rebecca Cifadeli, Brian deVries, Sabrina Ford, Rebecca Malouin, Dustin De Felice, Jeremy Bond, Jonathan Choti, John Buchweitz, and Matthew Koehler. The whole committee will meet one more time in January to finalize this work. FASA is connecting with colleagues in HR to identify any potential pitfalls. The work will be presented to COFAD in Feb 2025. We expect to implement these best practices during the AY25-26 year. 3
New Business for AY 24-25 Provide input and make recommendations for the anti-retaliation policy. Currently, there is an interim policy. The personnel subcommittee is continuing this work and will give a report to UCFA in Spring 2025 Work with FASA to develop a process for reviewing MSU faculty and academic staff affairs policy. Work with FASA to provide suggestions and input for prioritizing faculty and academic staff affairs policy review. Work with FASA to provide suggestions and input for prioritized policies. UCFA developed a policy subcommittee to undertake this work. We will review the progress of this work in 2025. 4
New Business for AY 24-25 Updated COI Policy The personnel subcommittee is continuing to work with partners to develop this policy. Faculty Conflict Management Working Group UCFA has endorsed this working group and will work with FASA to assemble and charge the group. External Letters of Reference (for RPT) policy. UCFA is working with FASA and policy subcommittee to make changes and transition to new policy template for spring semester 2025. Paid Family Sick Leave Policy UCFA is working with FASA and policy subcommittee to develop for spring semester, 2025. 5
Faculty Raise Memo The committee will continue to work with the Provost to engage in conversation around our faculty raise memo. The budget subcommittee has engaged with the Provost, Rebecca Barber, Dave Weatherspoon, and Bethan Cantwell and team to develop and revise the memo. An initial memo to the Provost has been approved by UCFA. We hope to receive feedback, incorporate feedback, and present to UCFA and then faculty senate in Feb or Mar. 6
