What is SUSI? SUSI are the Student Universal Support Ireland. Go to www.susi.ie to register and apply for financial support for college through the means-tested Student Grant Scheme.
What kind of Grant? There are 2 types of Grants available 1 to cover living expenses (the MAINTENANCE GRANT) 1 to cover your college fees (STUDENT CONTRIBUTION GRANT)
Maintenance GrantStudent Contribution Grant? In general, if you qualify for a maintenance grant you will also qualify for the Student Contribution Grant. However, if you don t qualify for a maintenance grant .. you might still qualify for 50% of the student contribution grant.
What is the Maintenance Grant? The Maintenance Grant is funding available to Undergraduate Students pursuing approved courses inside and outside the Irish State . it even travels with you to for example Scotland. Grant rates for qualifying students vary according to a number of factors including: household income, family size and whether the student's college is close to their permanent residence. In other words, it is 'means tested'. It is paid into your bank in 9 monthly instalments.
What are the Maintenance Grant Rates? Undergraduate Grant Levels (Maintenance Element) Home address is less than/equal to 45 km from the college. Home address is greater than 45 km from the college. Level of Grant Maintenance Non-adjacent Rate Maintenance Adjacent Rate Special Rate of maintenance grant 5,915 2,375 Standard Rate 100% maintenance 3,025 1,215 Standard Rate 75% maintenance 2,270 910 Standard Rate 50% maintenance 1,515 605 Standard Rate 25% maintenance 755 305
What is the Student Contribution Grant? The Student Contribution Grant pays the college administration fees which are typically 3000 per year. This Grant is paid directly to the college/institution you will attend, on your behalf, once the college has confirmed your registration as a student.
How do I apply? Ask your parent/guardian to try out the eligibility reckoner at https://susi.ie/eligibility-reckoner-app/index.html If you are eligible then register your details, log on and fill in the form. Make sure that you have checked the SUSI Grant Scheme Check Box in your CAO application when it reopens in May 2018.
