Conducted in the Five SCATEH Regions BARRIE NORTH SIMCOE ORILLIA AND AREA SOUTH GEORGIAN BAY SOUTH SIMCOE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES
What is a Point-in-Time (PiT) Count? A measure of the number of people experiencing homelessness on a specific day - a snapshot Anonymous survey Includes sheltered and unsheltered homelessness Measures progress in ending homelessness Uses volunteers to conduct the count & surveys Data entered into HIFIS Required by government of Canada every two years
What is a Registry Week? A count and survey/assessment of people experiencing homelessness Can be carried out over two to three days (in a week) Purpose: o To assess the needs of people experiencing homelessness o To develop a local by-name list to prioritize people for housing interventions Non-anonymized information increases urgency to house known people List is regularly updated
Benefits of a Combined PiT Count & Registry Week Increased awareness of homelessness Enhanced understanding of who is experiencing homelessness in Simcoe County and its sub-regions, and what their needs are Call to Action prioritizes Simcoe County s most vulnerable residents for: o Housing-based case management o Help to secure housing o Help maintaining housing o Rent subsidies Collected information will: o Inform local policy and service delivery o Measure our progress in ending homelessness
PiT & Registry Week Resources Federal, Provincial and County support Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing and Service Providers (including those offering motel voucher programs) Enumeration Planning Groups o Steering Committee o Localized Planning Groups People with lived experience Volunteers (200) HIFIS PiT module
How Can You Participate? Spread the Word (before & after) Encourage organizational participation and resources (e.g., space) Volunteer Encourage others to volunteer: o Housing providers including landlords o Students, neighbours, friends and family o People with lived experience o Faith communities o Staff and volunteers of homeless-serving and other human service organizations o Businesses o General community
