  3. INTRODUCTION An anal fissure is a small tear in the thin, moist tissue that lines the anus. The anus is the muscular opening at the end of the digestive tract where stool exits the body. Common causes of an anal fissure include constipation and straining or passing hard or large stools during a bowel movement. 02-05-2025 ROHILKHAND COLLEGE OF NURSING 3

  5. ETIOLOGY Common causes of anal fissures include: Passing large or hard stools. Constipation and straining during bowel movements. Long-lasting diarrhea. Childbirth. 02-05-2025 ROHILKHAND COLLEGE OF NURSING 5

  8. CLINICAL MANIFESTATION Pain during bowel movements. Pain after bowel movements that can last up to several hours. Bright red blood on the stool or toilet paper after a bowel movement.   9. DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION Anoscopy. An anoscope is a tubular device inserted into the anus to help your provider see the rectum and anus. Flexible sigmoidoscopy. Your provider inserts a thin, flexible tube with a tiny video into the bottom portion of your colon. This test may be done if you're younger than 45 and have no risk factors for intestinal diseases or colon cancer. Colonoscopy.
