Bioremediation is a waste management technique that utilizes organisms to remove pollutants from contaminated sites. This process involves the use of bacteria and fungi to degrade contaminants in soil and groundwater, making it an effective and economic solution for various organic and inorganic contaminates. Learn about the scope, types, and working principles of bioremediation in this comprehensive guide.

  1. BIOREMEDIATION (M.SC.3RDSEMESTER (MICROBIOLOGY) DR.SMRITI MALL (CO-ORDINATOR OF DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY) DEEN DAYAL UPADHYAYA GORAKHPUR UNIVERSITY GORAKHPUR(SESSION 2021-2022)

  2. WHAT IS BIOREMEDIATION REMEDIATES MEANS TO SOLVE A PROBLEM ,&BIOREMEDIATE MEANS TO USE BIOLOGICAL ORGANSIMS TO SOLVE AN ENVIORNMENTAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS CONTAMINATED SOIL OR GROUNDWATER. BIOREMEDIATIONS MEANS TO USE A BIOLOGICAL REMEADY TO ABATE OR CLEANUP CONTAMINATES. BIOREMEDIATION IS A WASTE MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE THAT INVOLVES THE USE OF ORGANISMS TO REMOVE OR NEUTRALIZE POLLUTANTS FROM A CONTAMINATED SITE.

  3. NEED/SCOPE OF BIOREMEDIATION BIOREMEDIATION IS A BIOLOGICAL DEGRADING PROCESS FOR THE TREATMENT OF COMTAMINTAED SOIL,GROUNDWATER RELYING ON MICROORGANIMS INCLUDING BACTERIA &OR FUNGI TO USE THE CONTAMINANTS AS A FOOD SOURCE WITH RESULTING DEGRADATION OF CONTAMINANTS . BIOREMEDIATIONS IS ONE OF THE MOST ECONOMIC REMEDIAL TECHNIQUE FOR TREATING MOST ORGANIC FUEL BASED CONTAMINANTS SUCH AS COAL TARS &LIQUORS ,PETROLIUM &OTHER CARCINOGENICS HYDROCARBON SUCH AS BENZENE &NAPTHALENE &SOME INORGANICS.

  4. HOW DOES IT WORKS? WASTE MATERIAL IS EXAMINED &CERTAIN BACTERIA ARE ISOLATED BASED ON THEIR EFFICACY AT DIGESTING &CONVERTING THE WASTE . INDIGENOUS OR LOCAL BACTERIA IS TO BE USED. THE BACTERIA THEN GO THROUGH SEVERAL STEPS OF CULTURES &PROCESS FOR PERFORMMANCE TESTING. THE SUITABLE BACTERIA ARE PLACED BACK IN THE WASTE ENVIORNMENT. THEY GROW &THRIVE IN THE PROCESS,DIGEST &CONVERT THE WASTE INTO CO2 &H2O THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE,NUTRIENTS,& FOOD MUST ALSO BE PRESENT.

  5. TYPES OF BIOREMEDIATION IT IS MAINLY TWO TYPES:- 1-IN SITU BIOREMEDIATION(POLLUTED SOIL &WATER) 2- EX- SITU BIOREMEDIATION (SHORT OF DISTANT REACTOR)
