  2. Development of child can be defined as the emergence and expansion of his capacities to providegreaterfacilityinfunctioning. The development is achieved through the process of growth, maturation and learning which has two aspects of change: quantity (size)andquality(maturation)

  3. Developmentismeasured in termsof anatomic, physiologicand behavioralaspect It also refers to an increase in magnitude; in body size, in muscular strength and intellectual ability. Growthis a measureof physicalmaturation

Developmentfollows a pattern Peculiar patternofdevelopmentofspecies Every individual normally passes through each major stageofdevelopment Prenatal period: fromconceptionto birth Neonatal stage : frombirth to2weeks Infancy : from2weeksto oneyear Babyhood : fromon yearto 2years Childhood : from2to 12years Adolescence : from13yearsonwards
