GALAGANDA AND GANDAMALA Charaka : Galaganda is one among 20 kaphaja vikaras Both are madhura rasa atisevana janya vikaras, Vamana yogya vyadhis, Virechana yogya vyadhis, Shiro virechana yogya vyadhis Sushruta : Mamsa pradoshaja vyadhi Medopradoshaja vyadhi Phalashruti of mahatiktaka ghrita (Kushta)
NIDANA : Meda Kapha Vata vardhaka nidanas SAMPRAPTI : NIDANA SEVANA VATA-KAPHA PRAKOPA STHANA SAMSHRAYA IN MANYA PRADESHA(GALA) STHANIKA MEDO DUSHANA FORMATION OF GANDA GRADUAL ENLARGMENT OF GANDA : samanya lakshana : vishesha lakshana (V,K,M)
SAMANYA LAKSHANA Stiff and non motile swelling which hangs like scrotum in the gala pradesha (neck) It can be either large or small | The swelling in the side of neck which is single in number
VISHESHA LAKSHANA Vataja galaganda | || || || || Painful swelling with prominent blackish veins Blackish or reddish swelling On long standing due to predominance of meda, swelling can become snigdha tara and aruja (painless) Rough swelling which attains gradual enlargement It doesn t undergo paka (suppuration) usually but rarely can suppurate due to unknown reasons Asya vairasya, talushosha
Kaphaja galaganda Stiff swelling with skin colour having mild pain and itching Cool on touch and big in size Gradual enlargement Suppurates slowly Asya madhurya , Talu Gala pralepa (coating)
Medoja galaganda Snigdha, mrudu Pandu varna (pale), Anishta gandha (unpleasant smell) Painless, severe itching Hangs like alabu fruit (narrow base and broad size) Enlarges and reduces based on the enlargement and reduction of the body Snigdha Asya Produces extra voices from throat
GANDAMALA | Gandamala is multiple in number Swelling in the size of fruits like karkandhu, kola, amalaka in axilla, neck, throat and upper back regions Kapha and Meda are involved Slow gradual progression and suppuration Multiple in number |
ASADHYA LAKSHANA If associated with peenasa, parshwashula, kasa, jwara, chardi then galadanda and gandamala are asadhya. If associated with breathing difficulty, aruchi, ksheena and swarabheda then its asadhya If the patient is ksheena and the disease is more than 1 year old its asadhya Such patients should be avoided from treatment
CHIKITSA Siravyadhana Virechana Shirovirechana Dhumapana Purana ghrita pana Langhana Cha.Chi. 12 If any swelling occurs in mouth ; pragharshana and kavala graha should be done.
Vataja galaganda chikitsa Swedana is the first line of management In pure vataja condition nadi swedana with kashaya of vatahara patra (eranda etc) In pittavruta vata with amla kanjika In kaphavruta vata with vividha mutra yukta kwatha In raktavruta vata with ksheera In dhatukshaya janya vata with mamsarasa Swedana followed by raktamokshana Regular upanaha sweda with Shanaadi beeja churna Amritadi taila pana

Medoja galaganda chikitsa Snehana abhyantara and bahya Siravyadhana Pradeha with shyama, sudha, loha, danti, gomutra etc Salasaradi gana kalka + gomutra pana Shastra paatana vidaarana medo samudharana (incision and drainage) Seevana (suturing) Dahana with madhu, ghrita, majja etc Avachurnana with kasisa, tutha etc Taila application Prakshalana with triphala kashaya regularly Vrana bandhana (bandage) Yava bhojana
