Global Warming and Greenhouse Gases By: Antonio I. Alston
What is Global Warming? What is a greenhouse gas? Global warming is the increase of earth s average surface temperature due to the effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels. Greenhouse Gases trap in heat in the atmosphere which makes earth s surface warmer.
What are the natural causes of this environmental issue? Loss of sea ice Accelerated sea level rise More intense heat waves Setting animals on the move
What are the human causes of this environmental issue? Climate changes is causing diseases to spread across the world. Air pollution due to the burning of our fossil fuels are causing our air to be less healthy.
Future Impacts on the Planet The potential future effects of global climate change include more frequent wildfires, longer periods of drought in some regions and an increase in the number, duration and intensity of tropical storms.
Diagram of the greenhouse effect
What actions have our government made to help this environmental issue? The government has put limits on our use of fossil fuels Environmental Protection Agency has put out laws to decrease air pollution. Created smarter cars that don t run on our fossil fuels Built green homes and buildings
What more can our local or federal governments do to help this environmental issue? Ban actions that are causing global warming Find more alternative energy sources to limit our use of fossil fuels Put fines on the over usage of our fossil fuels
What can we do as individuals to help? Weatherize your homes and apartments Drive less Choose renewable energy sources Limit pollution habits Limit deforestation Reduce, reuse, and recycle Use less heat and air conditioning
Three solutions to your environmental issues 1. Drive smarter cars to limit air pollution and using fossil fuels 2. Limit our use of fossil fuels because they take to long to replace. 3. Limit deforestation because destruction of living trees reduces the amount of photosynthesis and cutting down trees releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
