What does special education look like in High school? Extended Content Standards - Students in these courses are those who are already enrolled in Extended Content Standards courses in middle school (self-contained) . Students following this course of study receive a graduation certificate. Occupational Course of Study - Students in these courses are required to meet certain criteria that the middle school may have already discussed with you. Students will have their Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies and Occupational Preparation courses with a Special Education teacher. All other courses are in the general education setting. These students are expected to take the same standardized test as students on the Future Core Ready course of Study. They are also required to complete work hours on and off campus. Future Core Ready with Strategies - Students following Future Core Ready course of Study will have all of their academics and electives in the general education setting. Students can have a Strategies class which is taught by a special education teacher. In the Strategies class the students will work on study skills, test skills, IEP goals, and receive additional support from a special education teacher for their core courses. Future Core Ready with Inclusion - Students in this environment have all of their classes in the general education setting. The special education teacher provides them with their services within the general education classroom.
