THE CONDUCT OF ICASS AND THE ROLES OF CAMPUS MANAGERS/ MANAGEMENT THEREOF JULY 2021 1
1. INTRODUCTION INTERNAL ASSESSMENT (ICASS) CONSISTS OF VARIOUS ASSESSMENT TASKS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS TO LEARN AND TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR FINAL EXAMINATIONS THESE ASSESSMENT TASKS RANGE FROM TESTS, PROJECTS, PRACTICAL TASKS, ORAL PRESENTATIONS, INTERNAL EXAMINATIONS, ETC. ASSIGNMENTS, 2
2. THE CONDUCT OF ICASS TO FOSTER CONSISTENCY AND TO ENSURE COMPARABLE STANDARDS, THE DEPARTMENT HAS THROUGH THE YEARS PUBLISHED GUIDELINES THE GUIDELINES ARE PUBLISHED EVERY YEAR BOTH FOR NC: V AND REPORT 190/1 PROGRAMMES ICASS 3
2. THE CONDUCT OF ICASS THESE GUIDELINES ARE NOW CALLED TVET CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION , DOCUMENTS TO HAVE A COMPULSORY LEGAL STANDING IN CASES COMPLIANCES IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT COLLEGES AND CAMPUSES MUST ALWAYS ASCERTIAN THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH ACADEMIC YEAR, LECTURERS ARE TRAINED AND CAPACITATED ON THESE GUIDELINES AS CERTAIN ASPECTS ARE REVISED ANNUALLY FOR THESE OF UNDUE NON- 4
3. ICASS GUIDELINES FOR NC:V PROGRAMMES, ICASS CONSISTS OF FIVE ASSESSMENT TASKS FOR VOCATIONAL SUBJECTS, OF WHICH TWO ARE PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT TASKS DEVELOPED BY THE DEPARTMENT FOR L3 AND 4. WHILE THE INTEGRATED SUMMATIVE TASKS ARE DEVELOPED BY THE DEPARTMENT, THEY ARE REGARDED AS PART OF ICASS BECAUSE THEY ARE CONDUCTED ON-SITE 5
3. ICASS GUIDELINES FOR FUNDAMENTAL CONSISTS OF SEVEN TASKS WHICH ARE ALL SET, MODERATED AND MARKED INTERNALLY (NO EXTERNALLY SET ASSESSMENTS) FOR REPORT 191 ENGINEERING SUBJECTS, ICASS CONSISTS OF TWO TESTS, WHILE FOR BUSINESS STUDIES IT CONSISTS OF THREE ASSESSMENTS, viz. ASSIGNMENT, TEST, AND INTERNAL EXAMINATION SUBJECTS, ICASS 6
3. ICASS GUIDELINES IT IS ONLY MARKS ACHIEVED IN THESE TASKS AS INDICATED ABOVE THAT WILL BE USED TO COMPILE AN ICASS MARK PER SUBJECT. ANY OTHER TASKS ADDITIONAL SUPPORTING TASKS USED MAINLY TO SUPPORT TEACHING AND LEARING, AND SHOULD NOT FORM PART OF CALCULATING ICASS MARKS FOR STUDENTS ARE REGARDED AS 7
3. ICASS GUIDELINES DUE TO COVID-19, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE PUT IN PLACE TO HANDLE ICASS FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2021: ADJUSTMENT TO T2 ICASS TO ALLOW FOR MORE TEACHING AND LEARNING TIME NC: V FUNDAMENTALS 6 TASKS, INCLUDING CHANGES TO WEIGHTED PERCENTAGES NC: V CORE 4 TASKS WITH CHANGES TO WEIGHTED PERCENTAGES PLUS ISAT R190/1 ENGINEERING WILL STILL BE 2 TESTS WITH CHANGES TO THE WEIGHTED PERCENTAGES (T1 = 40% AND T2 = 60%) BUSINESS STUDIES 2 TASKS WEIGHTED 40% AND 60% RESPECTIVELY 8

ICASS EVIDENCE ICASS SCRIPTS) MUST BE SAFELY STORED AT A CAMPUS FOR THE DURATION OF THE VALIDITY OF THE ICASS MARKS FOR NC:V, ICASS MARKS ARE VALID UP TO THE SUPPLEMENTARY USUALLY CONDUCTED THE FOLLOWING YEAR, SO ICASS EVIDENCE MUST BE KEPT UP UNTIL THE RESULTING OF THE SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS (OR EVEN LONGER) EVIDENCE (STUDENTS MARKED 9

ICASS EVIDENCE THE REPORT 191 INTERNAL CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT (ICASS) MARKS FOR BUSINESS STUDIES (SEMESTER) MARKS ARE VALID FOR TWO (2) CONSECUTIVE YEARS AND FOR ENGINEERING STUDIES (TRIMESTER) MARKS ARE VALID FOR THREE (3) EXAMINATIONS (NOT NECESSARILY CONSECUTIVE). ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE AVAILABLE DURING THIS PERIOD SHOULD QUERIES ARISE OR FURTHER VERIFICATION PROCESSES NEED TO BE CONDUCTED ALL BE SHOULD 10
5. CURRENT CHALLENGES WHILE MANY CAMPUSES HAVE INTERNALLY DEVELOPED ASSESSMENT AND MODERATION POLICIES, SUCH POLICIES USUALLY LACK DETAIL IN TERMS OF CERTAIN ASSESSMENT ASPECTS (e.g. Re-Assessment, Detection and Reporting of ICASS irregularities, Measures to deal with instances of failure to submit adequate ICASS evidence when requested) LACK OF/ NO EVIDENCE THAT MANAGEMENT ESNURES ADHERENCE TO INTERNAL AND NATIONAL ASSESSMENT POLICIES AND GUIDELINES 11
5. CURRENT CHALLENGES LACK OF/ NO EVIDENCE OF PROCEDURES TO ENSURE THAT ICASS MONITORING REPORTS ARE PRESENTED TO THE ACADEMIC BOARD NO EVIDENCE THAT ANNUALLY ON REVISED ICASS GUIDELINES, ESPECIALLY NEWLY APPOINTED STAFF LACK OF/ NO EVIDENCE OF PROCEDURES TO VERIFY THAT ICASS MARKS SUBMITTED FOR CAPTURE CORRESPOND WITH ACTUAL MARKS ON STUDENTS SCRIPTS STAFF IS TRAINED 12
5. CURRENT CHALLENGES LACK OF/ NO CLEAR EVIDENCE OF REMEDIAL ACTION IN INSTANCES ICASS EVIDENCE IS NOT SUBMITTED OR INADEQUATE EVIDENCE IS SUBMITTED AT THE FIRST INSTANCE OF SUCH EVIDENCE HAVING BEEN REQUESTED WITH THE CONSEQUENCE THAT STUDENTS RESULTS ARE BLOCKED UNTIL ICASS EVIDENCE IS VERIFIED 13
6. THE ROLE OF CAMPUS MANAGEMENT ENSURE THAT ICASS MANAGEMENT PLANS ARE AVAILABLE AND IMPLEMENTED MONITOR THE CONDUCT OF ICASS AS PER MANAGEMENT PLANS COMPILE MONITORING REPORTS ON ICASS AND SUBMIT SUCH TO THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL: ACADEMIC FOR DISCUSSION IN ACADEMIC BOARD MEETINGS ENSURE THE INDUCTION AND TRAINING OF NEW AND CURRENT LECTURERS ON ICASS 14
6. THE ROLE OF CAMPUS MANAGEMENT ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY AND UPDATING OF THE ICASS RESOURCE FILE FOR MONITORING PURPOSES AVAILABILITY OF NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION POLICIES COLLEGE-DEVELOPED MODERATION POLICIES, ICASS MANAGEMENT PLANS, LATEST INSTRUCTIONS, EVIDENCE THAT THE CAMPUS/ COLLEGE HAS ORGANISED ICASS TRAINING FOR ALL LECTURERS AND ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES. AND TVET CURRICULUM 15
6. THE ROLE OF CAMPUS MANAGEMENT ENSURE THE AVAILABILITY AND UPDATING OF LECTURER PORTFOLIO SUBJECT FILE AND PORTFOLIO OF EVIDENCE FOR STUDENTS (NC:V) AVAILABILITY OF SUBJECT FILES, LECTURER ASSESSMENT FILE AND MARKED SCRIPTS FOR ALL STUDENTS (NATED ENGINEERING AND BUSINESS STUDIES) ENSURE THAT APPROPRIATE ACTION IS TAKEN SUBMISSION OR SUBMISSION OF INADEQUATE ICASS EVIDENCE OF ASSESSMENT, CORRECTIVE CASES OF IN NON- 16
