I. Was Jesus attractive? Isaiah 53:2 NLT My servant grew up in the Lord s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. John 14:9 10 NLT Jesus replied, Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? Don t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.
II. Why was Jesus attractive? A. Rich young ruler Luke 18:18 20 TPT One day a wealthy Jewish nobleman of high standing posed this question to Jesus: Wonderful Teacher, what must I do to be saved and receive eternal life? Jesus answered, Why would you call me wonderful when there is only one who is wonderful and that is God alone? You already know what is right and what the commandments teach: Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not lie, and respectfully honor your father and your mother.
II. Why was Jesus attractive? A. Rich young ruler Luke 18:21 23 TPT The wealthy leader replied, These are the very things I ve been doing for as long as I can remember. Ah, Jesus said. But there s still one thing you re missing in your life. What is that? asked the man. You must go and sell everything you own and give all the proceeds to the poor so you will have eternal treasures. Then come and follow me. When the rich leader heard these words, he was devastated, for he was extremely wealthy.
II. Why was Jesus attractive? B. Zacchaeus Luke 19:1-5 TPT In the city of Jericho there lived a very wealthy man named Zacchaeus, who was the supervisor over all the tax collectors. As Jesus made his way through the city, Zacchaeus was eager to see Jesus. He kept trying to get a look at him, but the crowd around Jesus was massive. Zacchaeus was a very short man and couldn t see over the heads of the people. So he ran on ahead of everyone and climbed up a blossoming fig tree so he could get a glimpse of Jesus as he passed by. When Jesus got to that place, he looked up into the tree and said, Zacchaeus, hurry on down, for I am appointed to stay at your house today!
II. Why was Jesus attractive? B. Zacchaeus Luke 19:6-10 TPT So he scurried down the tree and came face-to-face with Jesus. As Jesus left to go with Zacchaeus, many in the crowd complained, Look at this! Of all the people to have dinner with, he s going to eat in the house of a crook. Zacchaeus joyously welcomed Jesus and was amazed over his gracious visit to his home. Zacchaeus stood in front of the Lord and said, Half of all that I own I will give to the poor. And Lord, if I have cheated anyone, I promise to pay back four times as much as I stole. Jesus said to him, This shows that today life has come to you and your household, for you are a true son of Abraham. The Son of Man has come to seek out and to give life to those who are lost.
II. Why was Jesus attractive? B. Zacchaeus Ironically his name means "pure" or "innocent" in Hebrew. Matthew 5:8 KJV "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8 MSG "You re blessed when you get your inside world your mind and heart put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
II. Why was Jesus attractive? C. Matthew Matthew 9:9 NLT As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector s booth. Follow me and be my disciple, Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. Matthew 9:10-11 NLT Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, Why does your teacher eat with such scum?
II. Why was Jesus attractive? C. Matthew Matthew 9:12-13 NLT When Jesus heard this, he said, Healthy people don t need a doctor sick people do. Then he added, Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices. For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.
III.How can we be attractive? Some teach you should become like the world in order to connect with them. Others teach you should be different from the world and then try to connect to them. Both of these world views are wrongheaded
III.How can we be attractive? John 13:35 TPT For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you re my true followers. Ephesians 4:31-32 TPT Lay aside bitter words, temper tantrums, revenge, profanity, and insults. But instead be kind and affectionate toward one another. Has God graciously forgiven you? Then graciously forgive one another in the depths of Christ s love. Even Jesus did not win everyone he encountered, but He kept representing the Father s love anyway.
John 13:35 TPT For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you re my true followers. Be Attractive
