Facts about selena Selena was appropriately named after the Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla Perez. Selena Gomez grew up listening to Celine and wanted a rhinestone question after watching Jennifer Lopez play Selena in the 1997 biopic. At just 16, Selena signed a recording contract with Hollywood record contract, the same label who also signed Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. when Selena move to Los Angeles with her mom, she grew up in a dangerous neighborhood. She said that sometimes she could even leave her house. from 2008 to 2012, Selena Gomez was part of the band Selena Gomez & The Scene. Originally she just wanted it to be called the scene but added her name as a compromise with her record company to appeal her Fanbase
