  2. DO NOW: 1 In groups of 3-4, or individually, complete the worksheets on the pathway of the sperm as well as the pathway of the egg. You may use ANY and ALL of your notes!

  3. DO NOW: 2 What does the term conception mean?

  4. The joining of the male sperm and female egg; also known as fertilization CONCEPTION - In your small groups put the following in order Sperm enters the vagina Sperm travels up the vaginal canal FERTILIZATION occurs sperm meets egg in the fallopian tube Fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube into the uterus Fertilized egg attaches itself to the lining of the uterus Fertilized egg uses lining for nourishment Fertilized egg takes 9 months to grow completely into a full term baby.

  9. EXTRA CREDIT Students can go home and research their own, their friend's or another family members birth story. Students can interview family members, look for photos, look through baby books, and so on. Have students write about the day the person was born. Students should be sure to discuss how long the mother was in labor, what type of childbirth the mother went through, and whether the mother had any complications.
