  5. Lesson 1: Singular and Plural Nouns A singular noun names one person, place, thing, or idea. On the other hand, a plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea. This is the easiest way to remember. However, what is more challenging and more important to understand is how to transform singular nouns into plural nouns. These are some of the rules for transforming a singular noun into a plural noun. Most nouns just add -s to make the singular noun plural. book - books pen - pens card - cards computer - computer map - maps Nouns that end in s, x, z, ch, sh add -es. atlas - atlases box - boxes index - indexes batch - batches quiz - quizzes Nouns that end y drop the y and add -ies. library - libraries city - cities penny - pennies daisy - daisies lady - ladies
