  1. What is it? Why does it matter? SYNTAX

  2. DEFINITION: Syntax, by definition, means sentence structure KNOW THIS TERM- it will be used throughout the next 3 years regularly when analyzing prose (written works)

  3. PURPOSE Why does Syntax matter? When analyzing style, authors unique voice comes through in their sentence structure and diction diction, or word choice. If you are writing, you have to use good sentence fluency to be sure that you make your point clear in an eloquent manner. This is the number one factor that the AIMS readers use to determine whether or not a student exceeds or meets.

  4. EXAMPLE OF ANALYSIS OF SYNTAX We are going to use the excerpt from Ray Bradbury to practice analyzing syntax and its effect on a reading passage.
