Uses explicit methodsto identify, select, and critically appraiserelevant research and summarizedata from those studies that are included in the review Biased towards quantitative to begin with, but now moving towards mixed methods and qualitative Originally from the field of medicine, now includes social sciences Uses only primary studies 4

Collating best available results to find the impact or effectiveness or what works Quantitative to find out why it has worked Qualitative Influencing the policy process Used extensively for policymaking in the health sector Communicating with the media Recently education SRs gaining some traction Identifying best methodologies Identifying gaps for future areas of research
