  2. The TextGenesis 21:8-10 8 So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned. 9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing. 10 Therefore she said to Abraham, "Cast out this bond- woman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac."

Introduction We may not know all the answers to every question If God didn t reveal the answer, we must not be troubled for He tells us everything we need to know Why are specific events and stories included in the Bible Tonight s lesson shows God s reason for tonight s story To understand this, we must define a Bible word, allegory, because in this story when God makes its application

Figures of Speech: Fables, Parables and Allegories A fable is an imaginary story with a spiritual lesson A parable is a possibly true story with a spiritual lesson An allegory is an historical event with a deeper spiritual lesson Tonight s lesson is a Biblical event, but before looking at the application God makes of this story, we will look at the event

The Allegory of Ishmael and Isaac The Historical Event Historical background of the story in Genesis 21 Genesis means beginning and is basis for the entire Bible We know Adam, Enoch, Noah, Babel first 1700 years of man In Genesis we are introduced to Abraham God choses Abram and makes a threefold promise to him That promise includes Isaac, Abraham s son The promise is so important it is found throughout Genesis

The Allegory of Ishmael and Isaac The Historical Event God promised Abraham a son though whom all mankind would be blessed When Abraham was 86 he had NO Children Sarai, Abraham s wife, arranges for Abraham to have a son by giving her handmaid, Hagar, to have the son The son s name was Ishmael Fourteen years later aged Sarah had a son named Isaac The text describes the day Sarah and Abraham sent Hagar and Ishmael away so he would not be heir of Abraham

Sinai v. 24 Hagar signifies Jerusalem v. 25 Hagar and Ismael are the Old Testament from Mt. Sinai WHAT IS TO BE DONE WITH THE OLD TESTAMENT Cast out the Old Covenant for is no longer God s will!
