The TSIA2 Test March 29 April 1
WHY do we need this????! The test measures COLLEGE READINESS. It is used by 2 year colleges as an entry exam. Some 4 year universities will use the test scores to determine the need for remedial classes.
Can I be exempted from the test? The ACT test will exempt you if you have a COMPOSITE score of 23 with a minimum of a 19 or better in both math and reading. The SAT test will exempt you if you score at least a 480 in the EBRW section and a 530 in the math section. If you tested last year but did not pass all 3 sections, you will take only the sections you did not pass. If you passed them at CTC, please let Mr. Teets know so he can update your scores.
What is the format of the test? The test is 2 sections: ELAR and Math. The test is online. The test is untimed and questions are progressive based on how well you do. For the essay, you should have 5 paragraphs with a clear introductory paragraph and closing paragraph and 3 paragraphs for the body. Organize thoughts well and use connection words: like, such as, therefore . Vary the length of your sentences.
Do I test for all 4 days? NO!!! You will be assigned a single day to test. When you complete the test, you will go back to class. If you have previously passed a portion of the test (ELAR or math) you will NOT test that subject again.
Can I prepare for this test? Yes! After you register for the pre-assessment activity today, you will have opportunities to practice for the test.
Why do I have to take the test? All Juniors will take the test, unless you have already placed out with another test. Reasons to take the test seriously: You may decide later that you want to enroll at TSTC, ACC, CTC or another junior college and NEED the test. Take it while you are in the courses that help you pass AND while it is FREE! If you do not pass the test, you may be placed in College Prep English and/or College Prep Math for your senior year.
What if I dont pass? Can I take it again? CTC offers the test for a small fee. You can re-test there by making an appointment with them. They can be reached at 254-616-3326. Reminder: The test you will take on our campus as a junior is FREE! You may be able to retest next year at MFHS for a reduced fee. The retest will be available after school.
What Now? You must complete a Pre-Assessment Activity. This will allow you to complete the test more quickly on the day you test. It only takes a few minutes, so get to it! Go to the MFHS Counseling website under Testing tab. Click on the link: TSI Pre-Assessment link. Questions?
