  1. Foundations Course Evening 7 Kingdom warfare (A) Let s watch the teaching video Unit 4, until 14:20 minute

  2. We are at war As believers and citizens of the Kingdom of God we are at war with Satan s kingdom. As followers and soldiers of Jesus, we need to know our enemy. Who is Satan and how did he acquire his power? Satan is a fallen angel, who wanted to be God and rebelled against God in Heaven. (Ezekiel 28:15, Isaiah 14:12-17). Satan was thrown out of Heaven on the Earth. One-third of the angels followed Satan. He has a kingdom (Matthew 25: Satan tempted the first human couple, Adam and Eve, to sin against God (Genesis 3:16-19, Romans 5:12). Adam and Eve obeyed Satan rather than God. This act of disobedience to God gave Satan power over mankind. Since then, Satan is the enemy of God s people, Christians. Question 1: how many angels are still at God s side? Question 2: Notice the number of Christians on earth. Are Christians fighting on own territory or on the enemy s territory?

  3. God the Father Names of Satan, the devil 1. Accuser (Revelation 12:10) 2. Tempter (Matthew 4:3) 3. Liar (John 8:44) 4. Murderer (John 8:44) 5. Serpent (Genesis 3:1) 6. Angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) 7. The evil one (1 John 2:14) 8. Enemy (1 Peter 5:8) 9. The Dragon (Revelation 20:2) God the Son, Jesus God the Holy Spirit The holy Trinity Satan Jesus said to the religious Jewish leaders: You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (Matthew 8:44) Antichrist the deceiver Question 3: what are Satan s characteristics in Jesus own words? False prophet The un-holy Trinity Question 4: which of them are most scary and why?

  4. Withstand the enemy Jesus Himself needed to withstand the false temptations of the devil when He was in the desert, right after He had started His ministry on earth. Read Luke 4:1-13 Question 5: Which typical falsehoods of Satan come in sight here? Jesus gave us an example prayer, called The Lord s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 9Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. Question 6: Discuss which part of the Lord s Prayer focuses on o Our present time o Our worship of God o God s providing power, now o Our request for forgiveness o Our fight against the devil o Our future time

  5. Question 7: Analyze the verbs. What s God s part? Opposing Showing favor Lifting up Caring Instructions In 1 Peter 5:5-9 we read how we, as believers in the church, should act: 5In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. 6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. What s Satan s part? Prowling Devouring Looking What s Our part. We read many instructions for us. Which acts are connected to the following verbs: Clothing Submitting Casting Humbling Resisting Being alert Standing firm Undergoing

  6. Satans strategies Satan does everything to attack us. He won t give up, unless: We flee We keep silent We rebuke him in Jesus name (God s authority in Zacharia 3:2 and Jesus authority in Matthew 4:10-11) We resist him (Our authority, read out loud James 4:7) If we have chosen to give our lives to God and professed Jesus as our Savior and Lord, we are Christians and belong to God. Can Christians be demon-possessed? The answer is NO. However, Satan can gain ground in our lives and influence us. Let s therefore study the ways in which Satan operates.

  7. Group discussion Satan s ways to attack us are: 1. He accuses (Zechariah 3:1) 2. He deceives (2 Corinthians 11:14) 3. He tempts (1 Thessalonians 3:5) 4. He tricks (2 Corinthians 2:11) 5. He traps (2 Timothy 2:26) 6. He uses our sickness (Luke 13:11, 16) 7. He uses our fear (Hebrews 2:14-15) 8. He uses our unresolved anger (Ephesians 4:26-27) 9. He uses our unforgiveness (Ephesians 2:10-11) 10. He uses our unsafe entanglement in demon infiltrated areas (1 Corinthians 10:18-22) Depending on our available time tonight, let s together select 3, 4 or 5 of these ten areas, and analyze the text and discuss.

  8. Next week Our battle against Satan: put on the armor of God 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand (Ephesians 6:10-13).
