What are volcanoes? MOUNTAINS OR HILL LIKE STRUCTURES, TYPICALLY CONICAL, HAVING A CRATER OR VENT THROUGH WHICH LAVA , ROCK FRAGMENTS, HOT VAPOR AND GAS ARE BEING OR HAVE BEEN ERUPTED FROM THE EARTH S CRUST
What are 3 types of volcanos? 1. COMPOSITE/ STRATO 2. SHIELD 3. DOME (SPEWS ACID LAVA, MUCH THICKER THEN REGULAR LAVA )
Explain 1. COMPOSITE- STEEP SIDED CONE, FORMED FROM LAYERS OF ASH AND LAVA. CAUSE OF MOST DEATH AND DISTRUCTION. 2. SHIELD- LOW, GENTLY SLOPING SIDES, ERRUPTIONS TYPICALLY NOT EXPLOSIVE. DEATH OR INJURY BY THESE RARELY OCCUR 3. DOME- THICKER THEN REGULAR LAVA THAT FLOWS FROM A SHIELD VOLCANO. ITS SIDES TEND TO BE BETWEEN A COMPOSITE AND A SHIELD.
Where can you find volcanos? TYPICALLY ALONG PLATE BOUNDARIES OR WHERE THERE IS AN OPENING/ CRACK IN THE PLATE.
Why should we understand volcanos? THIS WILL HELP PEOPLE HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND KNOW HOW TO PREPEAR FOR A MASS ATTACK FROM A VOLCANO. FOR EXAMPLE: IN MY HOUSE OUR GARAGE HAS AN EARTHQUAKE KIT IN IT (FOOD, WATER ETC.) THE REASON WE HAVE THIS IS BECAUSE WE ARE EXPECTING AN EARTHQUAKE AS WE HAVE NOT HAD ONE FOR A LONG TIME, SO WE ARE PREPEARING FOR THE DISASTER. WHICH THIS TYPE OF THING WOULD HELP WITH VOLCANOS TOO. IF IT EXPLODES, HAVE A SHELTER.
