The EPIC support hierarchy was agreed upon at the EPIC meeting in May/June 2024 at Purdue The GST supports the entire inner tracker and is able to make the adjustments within a gimble of 1 cm (as proposed by Rahul) using fixed points at the end. The GST needs engagement rings to support the AC-LGAD TOF and the CymBal MicroMegas (Inner MPGD) The MPGD is asymmetric about the IP. The current position of the engagement ring is determined by the break in the left and right half of the MPGD and thus it causes the TOF to be of different lengths 3
Barrel TOF stave cut outs Two lengths of staves planned. There will be acceptance loss at the center engagement ring. The ring thickness is currently designed to be 5 mm. Length 1297.50 Length 1587.50 -1740 mm -1745 mm -147.50 mm 1155 mm 1150 mm -152.50 mm IP Z=0 mm (IP) Z coordinates for Engagement Ring
The engagement rings are needed to support the TOF at a central location as a plank / stave of 2.7 m is not stiff enough to self support its weight and achieve the required deflection limits from TOF group. The asymmetric design of the engagement ring is also used to have prongs go inside the MPGD and support the rail mechanisms used for insertion of SVT into the global assembly. keep 3 engagement rings --> rib supprot for SVT remove middle stent to SVT, keep MPGD and TOF middle ring ofc ...than PST makes sense keep asymmetric ladders because it 44-56 % fraction for services total mass of 2.9 PST is center ITST 25 kg vs rib like structure GST supports service, weight services supported by it is: 100 ish kg 6
SVT supports from engagement rings to GST Having the rail mechanism enables insertion of the SVT into the volume without the need of another tube in the inner most vertex regions where material budget is crucial A cage like structure can be used for supporting all barrels and SVT discs In this it is the gray cage structure. The blue beams are temporary support beams for handling OUTSIDE the assembly hall. These will be removed before SVT is pushed into the ePIC assembly 7
Mircomegas Cymbal (Inner MPGD) support The inner MPGD CymBal will be supported at three locations at the very center of the MPGD sub detector and at the two extreme ends using the engagement rings / features or attachments to the engagement rings This Prong like attachments provide support to the MPGDs as well as the rails on the inside of MPGDs on which the SVT detector and the beam pipe will slide in 8
