  4. THE MESSAGE AND THE QUESTIONS The message is asking the viewer to consider the ways in which protests portray a growing disconnection from our conventional dealings with populations and the further reaching toll Covid19 has on the division of people within our country. How can I best present this story so that it is successfully unique and indifferent to the already saturated cover of this topic?

  5. SCRIPT I have decided for my final calling card pitch to do a 2-minute news presentation piece covering the broader reaching effects of Covid19. Understandably, this is quite a saturated topic, but I believe that my insights will be unique. What I have observed over time is that people s ideologies and opinions have been challenged by restrictions, politics and isolation and it has created a sort of collectivist approach to representing viewpoints that have been frowned upon or considered a minority. Most importantly, this piece will demonstrate that these ideas have always been held but we are living in a time where circumstances have put a magnifying glass over them, and they have become increasingly more vocal. The pandemic has shone a light on deep cracks in our cultural identity as easy going and down to earth and as I have thought about this issue more in depth, I think that we may have never been so divided. We are becoming polarised between rigid right-wing ideologies and our progressive desires. Given the considered time frame, this piece will be a form of thought provoking and idea/question inducing media. It reflects my growing shifting interest in journalism while utilising some of the key learnings of my degree such as shooting, editing, and producing. I have spent time considering how I can make this as effective and unique as possible. Having connections within the counselling field, I am having discussions with someone who is able to connect me with a professional who can speak to the psychological side of this issue and give some primary sourced insights. This person I have been connected with I know well and she is well trained. My timeline consists of finalising a script and my research. My shooting, considering restrictions, will be at Carlton Gardens to add visual appeal, my home for narrating cutaways and various different statistical infographics alongside my zoom interview. Upon completing this shooting, I have attempted to allocate ample time for editing and contingencies. The video should look something like a 7:30 report with some b-roll footage and even some audio clips as foley to help the piece flow and invoke certain feeling. What I really want this piece to do is to ask the viewer to consider the ways in which we are seeing outbursts of hidden beliefs through protests etc. held by individuals within our communities and how we can support people in feeling less oppressed while simultaneously reinstating the need for further investment into mental health care. At a time that is increasingly more and more exhausting for every member of our society, we are seeing more divide than support and it feels as though this is time and time again put to the side. The question I have for the class is how can I best present this story so that it does seem unique and indifferent to its already saturated coverage.
