CLASSES In the book, a much-treated topic is the social classes, different from each other in prejudices and different possibilities of life. Amy was born into a Japanese family, very tied to traditions. Her boyfriend is Adam, from a rich family, with many more financial possibilities but they date and go beyond prejudice despite this.
REBEL Prof Mister Otero decides to play the game of colors which, according to him, will last a couple of weeks. First there are four colors, Blue (richer) at the top, Dark Green, Light Green and Orange (poorer) at the bottom. All participants in the game are randomly assigned to a color, but there is a preselection by the teacher based on the evaluation of a test that everyone had to write. Amy towards the end of the game after realizing how different social classes affect and are negative, she decided to rebel and create a protest against the game.
SCHOOL The school in the book is a place with a lot of importance and where there are many important events. First of all it is the place where Amy and Adam spend the most time together, being in class together. Later at school there will be the game of colors, which is very important for the conclusion of the book.
ADAM Adam is Amy's boyfriend, he comes from a rich family, he lives in a residential area with large houses. Very often Adam having a car can take Amy home or around, and this is another factor why amy's father is against this relationship.
PARENTS Amy's parents, who are Japanese, are very important in the book because on many occasions they are against their daughter's choices. The father, Mr. Sumoto, is immediately opposed to the relationship that is created between Amy and Adam, as Adam is not of the same nationality as his daughter. Their relationship despite the father's commitment to end it continues even after various punishments from Mr. Sumoto to Amy.
FRIENDS In the book, a topic that is heavily covered is friendship, such as that between Amy and Juan or Adam and Justin. Friendship, like love, most of the time goes beyond prejudice and social class. I see friendship as a bond, a pact between two people who promise each other loyalty and respect, who decide to live many moments and experiences together, and who protect and help each other.
GREEN Green is the intermediate color, the color of those who are not rich but not poor, it is the color between blue (rich) and orange (poor). Amy was put in the color blue and Adam in the Orange.
HOME "Home" is a word that is mentioned many times in the book. In the beginning, it is used to compare two different areas: that of Adam with large and beautiful houses, and that of Amy with smaller and humble houses. The word home can have different meanings, it can mean a place that makes us feel safe or the building itself where we live.
MIDDLE CLASS Middle Class means the economic group between the upper and lower classes, including professional and business workers and their families. More than 40% of the population is part of it, it is the majority class, of those who live a humble life, manage to eat and drink, and have a job but cannot afford many things.
JAPANESE Amy and her family are Japanese, very traditional people who follow the rules. The father, Mr. Sumoto, in fact immediately finds himself in disagreement with his daughter's decision to date a white boy, especially after being disobeyed by his great son Hideo. Amy, being young and of a new generation, doesn't understand her father's motives for being against a simple relationship.
2 WEEKS 2 weeks: The professor at the beginning of the game announced that the game would last 2 weeks. It would be an experiment to see the reaction of the children and demonstrate to them the division of social classes in real life. The game lasted 4 weeks until Amy, after creating a protest, ended it.
LOVE Love in the book is treated as a problem, something that Amy and Adam have to hide from Mr. Sumoto, Amy's father. Even now, in 2022, love in many countries is not at all accepted and seen well, now I will give you an example: -in Africa in 70% of the countries it is the man who decides the woman to marry, the woman has no right to speak in this regard.
MAJORITY The economic division in the world is divided into two unequal parts: -1% of the world population holds 99% of the world s money, and the rich part of the world -The remaining 99% holds only 1% of the money and is equivalent to the poor-middle class.
