THE CARNIVAL SEASON IN TRANSYLVANIA In Transylvania, the Farsang carnival season is celebrated with great enthusiasm. It usually takes place in February and is a time for people to come together and enjoy various traditions and customs.
THE BB BURNING One of the most popular traditions during Farsang is the burning of the "B b," which is a large straw effigy representing winter and evil spirits. The burning of the B b symbolizes the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
THE KECSKE TNCOLTATS Another traditional event is the "Kecske T ncoltat s," which translates to "Goat Dancing." This involves people dressed in goat costumes dancing and frolicking through the streets, accompanied by music and laughter.
COSTUME PARADES Throughout Farsang, there are costume parades in which people dress up in elaborate costumes and masks. The parades are often accompanied by music and dancing. Farsang is also a time for feasting and drinking. Traditional dishes like "k rt skal cs" (chimney cake) and "f nk" (doughnuts) are often served, along with local wines and spirits.
MASQUERADE BALLS AND CHILDRENS DAY Masquerade balls are another popular Farsang tradition. People dress up in costumes and masks and dance the night away to traditional music. There is also a special day during Farsang for children, where they dress up in costumes and participate in various activities like games and crafts.
