University ICT Systems Induction - Enhancing Student Experience
Emphasizing the importance of introducing students to ICT systems early, the university ensures accounts are functional, provides a learning opportunity, and prevents overwhelming information during on-campus inductions. Despite a few errors reported by students, the process involves account creation, email notifications, PICTI undertaking, and feedback collection. Student perspectives vary, with some finding the induction straightforward, while others feel it is a bit complicated and time-consuming. Overall, the induction aims to prepare students effectively for navigating the university's ICT environment.

Why we did it Introducing the students to the University s ICT systems asap Ensure accounts are working Give them an opportunity to learn and experiment with the systems Prevent information overload at Induction on campus
The process Students register and accounts created 24hrs later email sent to student with PICTI link Student undertakes PICTI Feedback requested at the end of PICTI
There are errors! For example in one instruction video that includes details of how to input your date of birth the video reads DDMMYYY (only 3 Ys!!!) and the email that one receives reads '...you have accessed your student email account and successfully SEND an email!' rather than SENT an email. Blue text which was not hyperlinked. Text on instruction page (the email address to use to obtain the Saltire password) could not be highlighted to copy. A very frustrating experience all round. Shabby work. I had problems with the code for the email section. It took ages. Had problems with the link not working. A bit confusng to be honest! Given that this is my return to Caledonian, I found this ICT Induction very useful as it wasn't available the first time around. I think it well definitely help students navigate and have a great understanding of the system before they start. Thank you! Extremely helpful, filling me with confidence for starting at gcu
Student perspective of it (Contradictory) Positive Negative Easy to follow and very helpful. Thanks! Not the most user friendly.... Always helpful to go over things I already new and learn what I didn't. Please I completed it Good for new students but since I've already studied at GCU it was a waste of time
Student perspective of it (Confusing) Bit awkward but overall easy I found this induction to be very exciting and simple thanks despite typing my full name but the displayed name was wrong. and I could not find a way to correct it... shame.. Too Useful complicated a process Easy to use, software could do with being configured better as not all content was loading fully. A bit time wasting having to wait for codes to try and move on to next sections of the introduction. Helpful Honestly, I found everything in the induction to be extremely self-explanatory and was already aware of how to perform simple tasks like sending an email.
