  2. Unlock the Road to Confidence: Everything You Need to Know About Unlock the Road to Confidence: Everything You Need to Know About the Safer Drivers Course the Safer Drivers Course Learning to drive and learning to drive safely are two different things. Even experienced drivers can face difficulties that risk their safety on the road. Handling such situations and staying safe requires hazard perception skills and knowledge of safe driving techniques. Whether you're new to driving or have some experience, the Safer Drivers Course offered by the NSW government is a smart choice for improving your skills and confidence on the road. Most driving schools in NSW are accredited Safer Drivers Course providers, and if you meet the criteria, you might also be eligible for a Free Safer Drivers Course. Even learner drivers under 25 with at least 50 logbook hours can take this course and become safer, more confident drivers. Here s a simple breakdown of what this course entails and what you can expect when you sign up for it: What is the Safer Drivers Course? While it s easy to think of the Safer Drivers Course as just another milestone in your path to getting your P s, it s much more than that. This fun and interactive course is specifically designed to teach key road safety skills to all drivers, especially young learner drivers under 25. The main purpose of this course is to help you master the driving skills that truly matter, like identifying hazards, staying alert and focused, and making safe and quick decisions. Along with giving valuable driving insights, this course also helps drivers to meet similar people who are learning the same things. What Does the Course Include? This course contains two key modules, making it easy to learn and genuinely useful:

  3. Unlock the Road to Confidence: Everything You Need to Know About Unlock the Road to Confidence: Everything You Need to Know About the Safer Drivers Course the Safer Drivers Course Module 1: Group Discussion (3 hours) The first module is a 3-hour interactive workshop that shows learners how to identify and address various risks on the road. It involves chats and discussions with other learners about their experiences, concerns, queries, and solutions regarding road safety and risk reduction while driving. It s not a simple chat session where you swap stories. It s a group discussion where you ll sit with other learners and a qualified facilitator and discuss real-world situations in driving, potential risks and hazards, and smart ways to avoid them. There s a lot you can learn by simply sharing your experiences and exchanging ideas. Module 2: Practical Coaching Session (2 hours) The most important aspect of safe driving is anticipating, identifying, and responding to potential hazards. While learning about it theoretically is necessary, it s not much help in real situations. That s why the second module of the Safer Drivers Course includes thorough and rigorous practice of spotting and avoiding hazards by driving with a professional instructor. You get to team up with another learner and a professional coach to drive in everyday traffic. You must try and spot potential hazards and try and avoid them before they become problems. This is a practical and hands-on way of teaching safe driving that can also help boost the driver s confidence. Who Can Take the Course? While this course is specifically designed for young learners, there are some criteria that these drivers must fulfil to become eligible for taking the course, especially when the NSW government is now offering a Free Safer Drivers Course. Let s take a look at these criteria:

  4. Unlock the Road to Confidence: Everything You Need to Know About Unlock the Road to Confidence: Everything You Need to Know About the Safer Drivers Course the Safer Drivers Course You must be under 25 years of age. You must have at least 50 hours of actual driving logged into your Learner Driver Logbook. These hours do not include the bonus hours from a professional driving school. You haven t taken the Safer Drivers Course before. This is a one-time course, so you cannot take it again. But Why Do Bonus Hours Not Count? The main purpose of the Safer Drivers Course is to help learners become safer, more confident, and more responsible drivers. To achieve this, learners need ample practice of real driving. And bonus hours from a driving school are not a real driving experience. If you ve taken 5 professional lessons with a driving instructor, you get 15 logbook hours instead of just 5. This is due to the 2 for 1 rule, which gives you two extra hours on the logbook for every hour you learn, resulting in 5 lessons x 3 = 15 hours. So, according to this calculation, you ll need 45 more real hours behind the wheel to become eligible for the course. Why Take the Safer Drivers Course? If you re still wondering whether this course is a good option, here s a list of what you ll get out of it: 20 bonus logbook hours, which means 20 hours less in the 120 supervised driving hours required to get a learner s provisional licence. Training in speed management and hazard perception skills, and better conception regarding safe driving with lower risk.
