  3. What is a Personal Tutor? They are your main source of support in your academic department An academic tutor who follows your progress throughout your degree They support you in 3 areas: academic, professional / career-related and pastoral support and signposting Not just when you need support but also to celebrate your successes, help with planning your progress and much more.

  4. Why do you need a Personal Tutor? Along with others, your Personal Tutor is there to help you in lots of areas of your life as a student: Settling in and feeling that you belong Being heard if things don t seem right Being sure of your timetable and module choices Academic work and progress year-by-year Making sense of your feedback Careers ideas, planning and personal development Directions to where to get help with life s challenges

What you can expect Meeting up at least 4 times in your first year, and twice a year after that Emails or announcements to get appointments booked in You can contact them for an appointment or advice Direction to teams with the expertise you want or need, such as: UniSkills Money Advice and Accommodation Specialised mental health support Sometimes one-to-one, sometimes in a group Preferably in-person but it may be online

  6. How to make the most of your Personal Tutor Always respond to their emails, even if it s just to say I m fine. Prioritise your Personal Tutor meetings Meet up regularly to share your challenges and successes Check if they re happy to offer a reference for job applications Let them know if you re struggling at all, even if you re already getting support
