  4. Lie #1 Happiness depends on positive circumstances The lie behind this lie is that we think the goal of this life is our happiness; Maybe our goal should be holiness. If we aren t joyful now, then we probably won t be joyful then (when circumstances change)

  5. Truth #1 We can choose to be happy even when everything isn t ideal. I ve learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Philippians 4:12 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Phil. 4:4

  6. Truth #1 We can choose to be happy even when everything isn t ideal. When my circumstances get difficult, the temptation is to take my eyes off of God and put them on my circumstances. If I fall prey to this temptation, I always begin to feel discouraged and overwhelmed. Rejoicing and remembering God s goodness helps me to put my eyes back on God and take them off of my overwhelming circumstances. If I fix my eyes on my circumstances, inevitably I look at my smallness and my inadequacies to solve my problems. If I fix my eyes on God, I look at his goodness and vastness, and my problems aren t so debilitating. Fix your eyes on Jesus. (Rob Reimer)

  7. Truth #1 We can choose to be happy even when everything isn t ideal. Declaration: I won t let the success of my children or favorite sports team determine my level of joy. I won t allow the amount of my financial savings to undermine my joy. I won t allow my health to control my heart. I won t allow my problems to diminish my hope. I ll fix my eyes on Jesus and find my hope and joy in Him!

  8. Lie #2 My circumstances will never change There are no hopeless circumstances, just hopeless people.

  9. Romans 15:13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  10. Truth #2 The length of time a problem has existed doesn t determine the likelihood of a breakthrough. All of God s promises are yes for me in Christ. John 5:5-9 invalid for 38 years cured! Mark 5:25-29 woman with bleeding problem for 12 years healed! Luke 13:11-13 woman bent over for 18 years freed!

  11. Our circumstances might not look like they line up with God s promises today but legally God s promises are ours!

  13. Truth #2 The length of time a problem has existed doesn t determine the likelihood of a breakthrough. All of God s promises are yes for me in Christ. 2 Cor. 1:20: For no matter how many promises God has made, they are yes in Christ. Declaration: God can change my circumstances! I ll seek Him for life and cling to His promises for me.

  14. Lie #3 There are no solutions for this situation. Here are some laughable assumptions: This situation is so bad that even prayer is pointless. The devil has won a complete victory, and therefore resistance is futile. God can t work this situation out for the good of anybody.

  15. Truth #3 God makes a way where there seems to be no way. God is working in every area of my life, and all things are possible with God. There is always a solution!

  16. Sometimes God calls us to be part of the solution. Heb. 11:7,29,30: By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family .by faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land by faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for 7 days. Declaration: God has the solution for every challenge I face. I ll seek Him for the solution, trust His timing and obey His directions.

Lie #4 Its impossible to have peace in certain situations Luke 4:28-30- 28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.29They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff.30But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

  18. Truth #4 peace isnt the absence of difficulties; peace is trusting God to work for good in every difficult situation.

  19. Truth #4 peace isnt the absence of difficulties; peace is trusting God to work for good in every difficult situation. God gives grace for every kind of situation we face. To praise and worship anywhere (Acts 16:16-34) Strength in weakness (2 Cor. 12:9) Peace in the storm (Phil. 4:6,7)

Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. As a result (of his imprisonment), it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. (Phil. 1:12-14) Look for the divine purpose in the situation
