Upscaling Customized Irrigation & Climate Advisory Services through Citizen Science
Connecting climate-vulnerable farming communities in Pakistan to improved climate-smart irrigation practices using citizen science. The project aims to enhance climate information and analytics in 10 districts across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Punjab. Through a grant of $250,000, the project will leverage existing resources and collaborations to upgrade the ICAS services, engage citizen scientists, and promote the use of innovative technologies. The implementation approach involves selecting farmers, partnering with government stakeholders, upgrading mobile applications, training citizen scientists, and developing governance plans for scaling up the initiative over a 14-month period.

Project Overview Project overall Goal: Connecting climate vulnerable farming communities to improved climate smart irrigation practices through citizen science Thematic Area: Climate information and analytics Geographic Scope: Pakistan (10 districts) Balochistan: Quetta, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Peshawar, Sindh: Sanghar, Tandojam, Mipurkhas, Punjab: Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar and Toba Tek Singh All these sites are selected as they either represent; communities with higher water use, food baskets and higher level of community mobilization for innovative initiatives. Grant Amount (in US$) : 250,000 The ICAS services are now supported by a strong server system for running analytics on daily basis through an additional funding of Ministry of Water Resources, Government of Pakistan.
