Tips for Freshmans Cindy Cervantes
Classes/Homework Being new to a school can be intimidating so try and find an acquaintance in each class With that acquaintance help each other out with classwork If you are having trouble understanding something don t be afraid to ask the teacher or a classmate for help
Time Management Don t wait till last minute you might think you ll have enough time but it will pile up and it will just cause you to become more stressed It s okay to take breaks in between doing work overworking yourself just stresses you out more and causes your work to not be your best Turn in stuff on time it s not worth losing points over
Peers/Friends You guys are all new to the school so help each other out Popularity isn t important everyone is focusing on their own thing so don t beat yourself up about not being cool enough just be yourself and you ll find other people with common interests Don t be scared to stop being friends with toxic people
Organization Use a planner it might seem like extra work but it s very helpful with remembering due dates and remembering when there s work to do and when there s free time Keep your things in an area you will remember and don t throw them away until you re 100% sure you don t need them cause you never know if you ll need them in the future Organize your work area to try and eliminate anything that can cause distractions
Ask for help Your teachers are there to help if you ever have a problem with anything so don t be afraid to ask or email them Your peers are also going through similar experiences as you so ask them as well If you ever need anything you can always contact your counselor
Self Care It s important to take time for yourself grades don t determine your worth so don t push yourself too hard to the point it s harmful Do stuff that makes you happy Pay attention to wellness class/freshman seminar it s very helpful with thinking positive and learning about mindfulness
