Van Buren Safe Routes to School Improvements The City of Colorado Springs has received a Safe Routes to School grant of $244,519 with a Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority local match to make safety improvements along Van Buren Street. Currently Van Buren s extra space and lack of pedestrian ramps encourages speeding vehicles and discourages walking and bicycling. This is of particular concern as students are trying to get to Mann Middle School and Stratton and Audubon Elementary Schools. This project will provide safer and more accessible travel along Van Buren for people on foot, on bike and in vehicles. Construction will start late summer/early fall and is projected to last 4-5 months. ColoradoSprings.gov/SRTSVanBuren
