Practice Manager More direct & daily patient care. Accelerated degree program (2y) & affordable tuition. CO-professional. Direct client care, diagnostic planning & interpretation. Surgery. Extensive formal education (8-12 years). High educational costs. Client Relations/Reception Accounts & Billing Social Media Manager Vet Social Work (an emerging field!)
Veterinary Nursing Professional Bodies: National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) & the Veterinary Nurse Initiative (VNI). Paradigm shift: a protected, credentialed title requiring an accredited degree which prepares you for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE)... eventually becoming a licensed Certified Veterinary Technician/Nurse. 2y degree programs focusing on: Anatomy, Pharmacology, Surgical Nursing, Laboratory Medicine. Externships to gain practical skills at hospitals like mine! Average costs for degree: $8,000-12,000. Average salary $36,000 ($28,000-52,000). Opportunities for SPECIALIZATION! (Behavior, Nutrition, Dentistry, Anesthesia)
Veterinarian, Veterinary Surgeon Professional Body: American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA) 4y Undergraduate Degree (biology, chemistry, pre-vet/pre-med, hard sciences ) 4-5y Professional Degree (Accredited University/College) +/- 4y in Specialization (Board Certified Surgeon, Cardiologist, Dentist, etc). Average Student Loan Burden: $200,00-$300,000 ( 83% vets carrying loans). Average Salary: General Practice $75,000-$150,000 Average Salary: Specialist $185,000 - $220,000
