Outline of presentation Context what we do Our stakeholders Views of our stakeholders Our responses
Our work Improve use of public resources and strengthen accountability Annual overview report on accounts of public services Special reports on use of public resources Financial audits of 290 bodies Identify opportunities for improved performance Support work of Committee of Public Accounts
Key stakeholders Committee of Public Accounts Citizens Parliament Accounting Officers/ Chief Executives Bodies we audit Boards / Audit Committees Staff
What our stakeholders said Independence Staffing Financial audit outputs Performance audit outputs What stakeholders value What stakeholders would like to see
Independence The Office of the C&AG is definitely independent The Office of the C&AG is independent of the Committee of Public Accounts and it s good that they refuse to follow any political lead How can they be fully independent when they are auditing the people they meet every day in the canteen?
Staffing View staff as high quality and professional Value public sector knowledge staff display More continuity when teams change Concerns with knowledge of government accounting from contract staff I have a very good opinion of the Office of the C&AG. Their staff are very professional and they all know their job.
Financial audit outputs Reconsider materiality in relation to propriety issues Some saw as fault finding exercise Concise but some issues need more detail Audit committees would like more engagement Greater likelihood findings will be accepted if coming from Office of C&AG
Performance audit outputs Real appetite for more reports Significant value from learning opportunities More cross cutting reports
What stakeholders value Comfort given by work of C&AG Experience of staff Quality and independence
What stakeholders would like to see More presentations/briefing events More guidance More engagement with audit committees More timely audit completions Greater use of info-graphics and illustrations in reports Follow up on findings
