Tornado Response (MVR) Presented by Celia Banuelos Emergency Preparedness Coordinator
May 7, 2024 About 6pm
Michigan Volunteer Registry May 9, 2024 Initial callout was sent to all 1,343 volunteers registered for Kalamazoo County, requesting they respond by noon on May 10, 2024. 1184 did not respond 94 were not available 65 were available Additional callouts were made on several occasions following the tornado to assist with clean-up and donation management.
The City of Portage reported about 28 individual volunteers, from the MI Volunteer Registry, assisted over the 2 months of coordinated volunteer efforts following the May 7 tornado.
