  3. Goals for Todays Orientation To understand of the role of the volunteer in our program To review the policies and procedures relevant to our volunteer program To review the responsibilities of any volunteer in our school

  6. The Role of the Volunteer Arrive at the scheduled time coordinated with CES staff Follow directions given by CES staff Ask questions for clarification Commit necessary time to complete tasks Accept guidance and feedback from CES staff Keep internal information confidential

  7. Safety First! Always remember to sign in and out! Please wear visitor tag at all times while at CES

  8. Safety First! Exercise reasonable care in protecting students from harm.

  9. Safety First! Follow Guidelines for Universal Precaution: -Wash hands and use hand sanitizer -Wear mask at all times while inside CES -Cover mouth when coughing or sneezing -Allow custodian to clean up bodily fluids

  10. Safety first! All medications must be administered by the school nurse!

  11. Confidentiality is Crucial As a member of the educational team, each volunteer must understand that all information regarding children, teachers, and the school is confidential and should remain in the school setting.

  12. Computer Data is Confidential Some school system data is confidential! Some student work on computers can be confidential!

  13. Be a Good Role Model Show kindness Be courteous, impartial, and fair. Earn respect. Give respect. Do not impose your own religious or political views upon students.

  14. Be a Good Role Model There is no dress code for adults. We ask you to follow the same dress code we ask our students to follow!

  15. The Do Nots! Do not date our students. Do not smoke on any school property. Do not bring drugs or alcohol onto school property. Social Media Policy Reminder- Do not take any photographs or recordings of students in any instructional setting.

  16. While in School.... You are welcome to use the restrooms in the teachers lounge, but we kindly ask you to respect teachers privacy during lunch times.

  21. Chaperone Responsibilities and Expectations Same as a volunteer AND Manage student behavior Serve as a teacher Assist all students Be on time Be respectful Chaperones represent the teacher, school and community

  22. HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER All volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation at the school. Watch a sexual harassment and child abuse training module and complete a verification form which is kept on file at the school.

  23. HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER Go to https://www.aacps.org/chaperone and scroll to the bottom of the page to request a commercial background check. Successful completion of a commercial background check is required before any person has access to students, either on or off school property. There is no cost to the volunteer.

  24. HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER Fingerprint-supported background checks are required for the following: All overnight chaperones/volunteers All drown proofing chaperones/volunteers All chaperones/volunteers with one on one unsupervised/unrestricted access to children The cost of fingerprinting is $58.25 and includes the commercial background check.

  25. HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER Please note: Commercial and fingerprint-supported background checks for chaperones should be completed at least 3 weeks prior to the scheduled field trip.

  26. Room Parents Teachers will share the Google form link for those interested in becoming a room parent in their Brightspace classroom.
