Water Agency Pilot Partners: 2016-2017 Partners California American Water Sacramento and Monterey/Salinas areas 373 customers served in pilot Solano County Water Agency Solano County 1021 customers served in pilot Water Measures and Services provided through pilot: Internal water audit External water audit (CalAm) Water conservation education ESA Hot Water Measures (Faucet Aerators, Low Flow Showerheads, Thermostatic Shower Valves) Only installed when PG&E does not provide the source of energy for water heating Cold Water Measures Toilet retrofits (CalAm) Flappers (CalAm) Hose nozzles (CalAm) Shower timers (CalAm) 5

  6. Test Results and Lessons Learned PG&E successfully developed relationships with two of the largest water agencies in their territory and implemented co-funded Tests that provided incremental measures and services 1,394 ESA customers served Savings: Over 4.6 million gallons of water 8,028 KWh per year Leveraging ESA resources Water agencies are enthusiastic about working collaboratively to maximize water conservation efforts, as ESA Program provides a cost-effective way for water agencies to deliver conservation services Keeping it simple Selecting a limited set of water conservation measures that ESA Program contractors can readily implement reduces program complexity Menu-based approach to collaborative services Utilizing a menu-based approach allows water agencies to tailor programs for their customers that meet their regulatory and managerial/oversight board objectives See: PG&E Energy Water Conservation Plan Final Report. 7. Test Lessons Learned (cont) Specific challenges have been addressed in current water coordination efforts Dual qualification processes a challenge for field staff We have worked to streamline this and credit CalAm for their through analysis and ultimate decision to accept ESA as categorical eligibility Master meters create challenge to serving multi-family properties CalAm allowed these customers to receive services if the household is ESA qualified Manual data entry is a fault point We have worked to streamline and automate data collection in the field Cross-referrals We developed automated cross-referral process to ensure referrals make it to water agencies on a timely basis Flapper replacement were difficult There are too many models, and this measure was ultimately discontinued 7
