Explore the pressing issues of water scarcity and pollution in cities worldwide, including the lack of access to clean water, inadequate sanitation facilities, and the impact of pollution on water resources. Discover how cities manage water through recycling processes and the challenges they face in wastewater treatment and drainage. Delve into the ecological concerns in Czechia, such as pollution from chemical factories, mining activities, and climate change effects on water resources. Gain insights into the Czech water resource management, highlighting the quality of drinking water, usage trends, and challenges posed by droughts and long-term water shortages.

  1. Water is Life Dominik Hlinka

  2. Problems with cities around the world Sub-sahara Africa: only 35% has access to piped water in households, 62% lives in slums Asia: Cities are not equipped to provide their growing populations safe water and sanitation they need, 43% of south-central Asia lives in slums Latin America: More than 60% in cities is affected by pollution of rivers and seas World: Problems with water scarcity

  3. What do cities do about water? Cities usually recycle their water by putting the water through a treatment The process consits of: Sedimentation, biological treatment, microfiltration, discharge Recycled water is usually discharged back into a river or an ocean or is used in non-drinking purposes In many cities, especially in the developing world, the lack of wastewater treatment and drainage facilities lead to pollution of the ground-and surface water resources.

  4. By EU, Description of a house sewage and water system

  5. By EU, Description of sewage system

  6. By EU, description of water recycling

  7. Ecology in Czechia Problems with chemical factories, mining of non-renewable resources, coal combustion, and car polution Polution is shortening the life span of a Czech by more than 10 months (the average for an EU citizen is 8,5) Rise of environment awareness, recycling Impacted by climate change (63% of land affected by drought) More water recyclation than before (31,4% in 1957, more than 97% today)

  8. Czech water resource management Raw water: half underground - half on surface Among the highest quality of drinking water in the world (strict law restrictions) Usage of water has gone down. Mostly due to higher prices and more efficient appliances Problems with drought/long-term water shortage 1992 1994 1996 1998 1989 2000 2002 2006 2008 2012 171 159 129 116 110 107 103 97,5 94,2 88,1
