California Waterboards Agency governing the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) for water testing inspects and certifies water testing labs for quality standards Changes in regulations: In 2019, new waterboard regulations no longer exempted public health labs from ELAP fees Additionally, ELAP adopted very costly NELAC institute (TNI) standards These new regulatory changes resulted in significant increase in costs to the public health laboratory Increase in costs are unsustainable Dropped ELAP/TNI certification in 2020 ELAP/TNI certification required for public water systems Background/ History

Water testing at the Madera County Department of Public Health Laboratory Goal: To provide a means for Madera County residents who own private wells and just want to know if there is bacterial contamination in their water PH Lab Not ELAP/TNI certified Private wells are not regulated Public water systems are regulated and require ELAP/TNI certification Type of water test: Colilert Presence or Absence test for Coliforms and E. coli Group of bacteria that Indicate environmental and or fecal contamination Fee= $15/test 2 Locations: Madera County Department of Public Health (Madera, CA) 1604 Sunrise Ave Madera, CA 93638 Hours: Monday-Wednesday 8:00am-4:30pm & Thursday 8:00am-11:30am Madera County Department of Public Health (Oakhurst, CA) 40325 Hwy41, Oakhurst, CA 93644 Hours: The first & third Monday of every month (unless otherwise posted) from 9:30am- 12:30pm Water testing at the Public Health Laboratory (Not ELAP/TNI Certified) (Not ELAP/TNI Certified)
