  7. President report (past) Dr. Nadine Arsenault-Samson We have continued to collaborate with the various stakeholders in healthcare to pursue our objective of improving primary care on PEI and discussing elements such as the physician complement, as well as advancing our ideas for collaborative care. A new committee, with representatives of the PEICFP, the College of Registered Nurses of PEI, MSPEI and Independent fee-for-service doctors, has been struck to propose a collaborative model that would work well on PEI. I recently had a chance to meet with our new Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. James Aylward, who proclaimed May 19th as Family Doctor Day on PEI. Our Family Doctor of the Year as well as our Awards of Excellence were also announced at this time. There will also be an official recognition at the next sitting of the Legislative Assembly later in June. The Minister, following our meeting, issued a press release regarding these matters in which he also stated that his government recognizes the value of family doctors and that they intend to increase the current complement during their mandate. This is great news as we have been working towards changing this complement for a number of years now. As president, I have also had the privilege of representing the College on various working groups, including one on Access to Primary Care and one on the Locum Process in PEI. Our Chapter also had brief discussions with Health PEI on panel sizes.

  8. President report continued In addition, we have also been successful in securing funding from Health PEI to help with costs of bringing the Practising Wisely Program to PEI. Stay tuned for information on this very interesting workshop planned for the fall of 2019. Finally, I have continued to represent our Chapter at National College meetings over the last year. There have been many interesting discussions and much work done on topics such as: Chapter Equity, Governance, National Licensure, Strategic Planning, the Value of Family Physicians, Physician Burnout and the Patient s Medical Home. In conclusion, I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to represent you over the last two years. My time at the College has given me many learning opportunities and it was a pleasure to represent the family doctors of PEI. Family Medicine is near and dear to my heart and I hope to be able to continue to advocate our values and goals as Past President.

  13. Improving Access of Local Food for Lower Income Diabetic Patients The PEICFP continues to work on increasing awareness around social accountability. We have received a grant from the PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to run a Food Prescription" pilot project on PEI. Doctors have identified low income diabetic patients (using the PEI poverty screening toolkit) and provided them with biweekly local veggie boxes for six months, from January until June 2019.

  14. Improving Access of Local Food These veggie boxes have been sourced from Schurman Family Farm, in Kensington, PEI. There are 28 patients participating in the project. They have all filled out an initial survey, which identifies some demographic data as well as food accessibility. We have collected all of their pre-pilot project A1C s, and upon completion of the project, A1C s will again be collected, as well as a follow-up survey. Finally, we are coordinating food preparation workshops to improve the patient s food literacy. A report of the findings will be produced at the end of the project. Respectfully, Dr Shannon Curtis
