  1. Welcome to year 5 Meet the Teacher 2020 Miss Kavanagh

  2. Staffing Miss Kavanagh (every day except for Wednesday Afternoon PPA) Mrs Murfet ( Mornings in class) Mrs Paskell (mornings in class and Wednesday afternoon for PE) Mrs Van der Klugt( afternoons in class) MrsTurner (afternoons in class) Mrs Modine (Wednesday afternoon for French)

  3. Prompt arrival for Early Work (8:40am) We will be following Year 5 National Curriculum. Teaching literacy, maths, science and PE discretely but including other subjects within the topic wherever possible. Children are grouped for literacy but these groups are fluid and do change. Children are given the opportunity to self select their task so that they always have the opportunity to push themselves to the next step. Seating: according how children will learn best. This is again fluid and is reflective of the situation and progression

  4. Reading - 5 times a week with a written response,RIBIT scheme continues and the children will receive frog stamps weekly and a certificate on their 10th RIBIT as usual presented at virtual assemblies. Spelling 15 spellings a week which will link to the spelling patterns and rules being taught in school . Given on FRIDAY,need to be completed and learned for a test the following FRIDAY. Each week instructions in homework folders and on Google Classroom. Maths - 30 minutes each week through online practise and worksheets linked to their week s learning. Given out on FRIDAY and needs to be completed/handed in by the following FRIDAY I would expect homework in year 5 to take in total about 2 and a half hours a week. I really value your support with homework as it really does support the learning that goes on in the classroom and helps support transition during this important year of primary school

  5. PE On Wednesday and Friday afternoons Trainers, Ditton Lodge T-shirt, plain dark shorts, jogging bottoms and fleece jumper when it is cold. Please can all PE kit be worn to school on the PE days. All earrings must be removed on PE days

  6. School Uniform Correct labelled uniform every day. Please make sure you have renamed uniform (especially jumpers) again this year No jewellery (other than a small pair of stud earrings), wristbands, friendship bracelets and long hair should be tied back with no decorative hair accessories I am happy for pupils to wear a watch/fit bit unless it becomes a distraction for them! No nail varnish is allowed in school Please bring a coat for outdoor learning as the weather grows colder.

  7. Other Mobile phones need written permission and must be handed in to me at the start of each day Written permission must be given if children walking home by themselves or meeting you outside of school gates (if this was given last year and there are no changes this is fine). Please can children bring a bottle of water (separate to packed lunch drink) each day. Please let us know if the children need any current medicine and please supply a health care plan for asthma. Can pupils bring in a fresh or dried unprocessed fruit or vegetable snack for their mid-morning break as there will be a long period of time between break and lunch?
