What is this.. Quattro. The Quattro system on Audi vehicles is a permanent all-wheel drive system developed by Audi. It allows you to transfer power to all four wheels of the car, providing better handling and traction in various conditions. The Quattro system was first used in 1980 on an Audi Quattro car. This car became known for its success in rallying and became the starting point for the development of the Quattro system on other Audi models.
The idea appeared in the head of Audi engineers quite by accident. At that time, four-wheel drive flourished, such giants of the automotive industry as Volkswagen, GMC, Chevrolet, Ford and many other car companies. But they all had one single problem - All their four-wheel drive cars in those days were on heavy vans, so Audi engineers came up with the idea "Why not transfer this system to a light car?"
The Quattro system uses a central differential that distributes power between the front and rear axles depending on road conditions. This allows the car to respond instantly to clutch changes and provides optimal traction. The Quattro system provides better stability and handling of the car on wet, snowy or slippery roads. It increases safety and driving comfort, especially in bad weather conditions. The Quattro system also improves the dynamics of the car, providing better acceleration and cornering stability. It allows the car to better cope with the demands of the road and increases the overall performance of the car.
This engine masterpiece. The Audi S1 sport quattro engine, which participated in the E2 rally, has the following characteristics: This car is equipped with a 5- cylinder engine with a volume of 2,135 cubic centimeters. The engine power is 550 horsepower at 8000 rpm. The Audi S1 sport quattro has been specially designed to participate in E2 rally events. This car has high performance and differs from the standard Audi S1 model. The Audi S1 sport quattro E2 is a rare and collectible model, as only a few such cars have been built.
The engine has two turbochargers and exchanges the first hundred in 3.1 seconds being off-road. These figures are simply mind-blowing considering that the car of 1986 and at that time there were almost no technologies that could change the world greatly. But the maximum speed is quite small. 220 km/h.
The Audi S1 sport quattro was one of the most successful cars in the history of the E2 rally. She has won several major competitions and championships in her category. In 1985, the Audi S1 sport quattro won the World Rally Championship in the E2 class. She also dominated the Pikes Peak rally, winning several times in her category. The Audi S1 sport quattro had outstanding performance and reliability, which allowed it to achieve great success in the E2 rally. What can we say about the long dominance in the Pikes Peak competition
As a conclusion, I want to say that unfortunately there are no more such cars being produced. No one has yet been able to break the Rally records that Audi created without having much popularity in those years. That's why we love Audi.
