Why Isn't Exhaust Brake on Your Ram 2500 Functioning?
Automakers have never stopped experimenting on different braking techniques. The result of such experimentation is braking solutions like engine braking.
Todays presentation is about exhaust braking an innovative form of engine braking.
RAM 2500 EXHAUST BRAKE IN A NUTSHELL
It works by closing a valve in the engine s exhaust mechanism. Backpressure generated due to this process increases resistance within the engine.
By resisting turning, it slows down the vehicle. In turbocharged diesel engines, it works in a slightly different way.
In this case, it uses the turbochargers wastegate to control the flow of exhaust gases.
RAM 2500 EXHAUST BRAKE: WHY IT MIGHT MALFUNCTION
Some of the leading reasons why your Ram 2500 s exhaust brake might cease functioning include:
#1- Exhaust brake valve is faulty struggling to regulate exhaust flow #2- Turbocharger is defective or its wastegate is stuck
#3- Electrical or sensor malfunction #4- Actuator responsible for regulating the exhaust brake valve is faulty and not working the way it should
#7- Button used to activate it... is defective #5- Damaged turbocharger actuator #6- Leaks in the exhaust system
#8- Exhaust system is clogged due to soot buildup #9- Issue is with the transmission #10- The engine control module is defective
#1- Vehicle not slowing down... when the exhaust brake switch is applied. #2- Exhaust brake not springing into action even when the button is pressed.
#3- The engine is giving off unusual/ scary noises #4- Illuminated warning lights
#5- Leaking exhaust system if you re noticing any of the above signs, have your Ram 2500 s exhaust brake components checked.
#1- Check the exhaust brake valve... consider replacing it if it appears defective.
#2- Carefully examine the circuit powering the system for signs of blown fuses or loose connections.
#3- Get rid of soot accumulated in the system #4- Replace defective sensors
#5- Call in professionals if all your attempts to fix the issue go in vein.
If your Ram 2500s exhaust brake is not function as it should, it could be due to one of the above reasons.
Have the issue diagnosed and repaired at a reputed service center before it turns into an expensive repair.
