  1. Why Is Target Setting Why Is Target Setting Important? Important?

  2. What is target setting? What is target setting? Target setting is identifying a goal you want to achieve. Can you give examples of targets you have been set or set for yourself? Arrive at college on time every day Complete and hand in all your homework by the deadlines Save enough money to buy .. Achieve a higher grade in your next test in a particular subject

  3. Why bother with Targets? Why is target setting important? Having short term goals are like driving with your headlights on. You can see what you need to do next to achieve what s ahead of you .your long term goals. When do we start setting targets and what are these targets based on? Research has shown that in education students achieve the best outcomes when we start setting targets together as soon as possible.

  4. Target Setting Set target grades together early in the academic year. Subject lecturers will give you Aspirational Target setting based on the performance of the top 25% of students nationally with your GCSE performance. These are called Alps grades after the company who processes out data or MEGs Minimum Expected Grades. We set these targets to challenge you to reach these high grade and do as well as you possibly can during your time with us.

Examples of long and short term targets Long Term Targets Pass my driving test by age 18 Pass my A levels with really high grades Get into the university of my choice Take a gap year and travel the world before starting a full time job Short Term Targets Attend all my lessons Ask questions in class if I don t understand something Work hard for my next subject test Act on the feedback on my last assignment to improve my next grade

  7. Working with your Lecturers and Pastoral Tutors Your subject lecturers will help you set short and long term targets in each of your subjects. Pastoral Tutors will help you monitor your progress to ensure you are making positive progress during your one-to-one sessions. Targets will be recorded on target setting sheets in your subjects In tutorial there will be a summary of your targets in your Personal Learning Record and electronically on Ontrack.

  8. Having targets set does NOT mean we are giving you extra work to do. The targets should help you to work SMART. You should be spending time on the things that will help you be successful rather than using time going over things you can already do.

  9. Check your Targets are SMART Look at the 6 targets you set earlier Check and if necessary improve the way you have written them so that they are SMART?

  11. Keys to successful target setting Write clear, SMART targets. Read your targets regularly and visualize yourself accomplishing them. Reflect on your progress to see if you are on track. Revise your action plans if needed. Celebrate your accomplishments.
