No other existing wireless technologies will connect with small button cell battery devices so effectively. Nokia introduced the new connectivity technology WIBREE Wibree is also known as Bluetooth Low Energy Technology 3

  4. offering connectivity between mobile devices or personal computers, and small, button cell battery power devices such keyboards, toys and sports & health care sensors. Wibree is the first open technology as watches, wireless, 4

  5. connectivity technologies are not optimized for ultra low power applications. Currently available standardized local 5

  6. Technology coming under IEEE 802.15.4 STANDARD The 2.4GHz frequency connectivity technology, offering low power usage. Wibree s design goal of 1-2 years on a single battery. Wibree is up to 10 times more energy efficient than Bluetooth , putting Wibree around 10mW. 6

  7. Wibree implementations: There will be two types of Wibree implementations Wibree stand-alone chip Wibree-Bluetooth dual-mode chip 7

  8. Wibree stand-alone chip: Used with applications which require extremely low power consumption, small size, low cost and where only small quantities of data are transferred. An ideal solution for small devices (like heart- rate monitors) that use only short data messages and must have long battery life. 8

  9. Wibree-Bluetooth dual-mode chip: Designed for Bluetooth devices Integrating with Bluetooth chip using current Bluetooth peripherals Additional tiny power cell (EG: CR2430) Mainly integrated in mobile devices & personal computers 9

  10. There are two different cases for the network topologies : single and dual mode topology single mode only topology Wibree supports star and star-bus network topology 11

  11. Single and dual mode topology - dual mode devices act as hubs and single mode devices act as nodes - the connection between hub & node is a BT low energy technology Single mode topology one of the single mode devices acts as hub 12

  13. Wibree and Bluetooth The maximum transmitted output power of Bluetooth class 2 is 2.5 mW. The total power consumption is much higher. The output power of Wibree standard will be around 0.25mW. Each manufacturer will determine its own transmit power. 14

  19. Future With WIBREE Blue is the upcoming Bluetooth low energy solution range from Nordic Semiconductor. It will bring Bluetooth wireless connectivity to portable devices running on small but standard coin cell (watch) batteries and support battery lifetimes from months to years, depending on the application 20
