  1. My son, accept my words and store up my commands. Turn your ear toward wisdom, and stretch your mind toward understanding. Call out for insight, and cry aloud for understanding. Seek it like silver; search for it like hidden treasure. Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and discover the knowledge of God. The LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6

  2. One Sabbath, as Jesus was going through the wheat fields, his disciples were picking the heads of wheat, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them. Some Pharisees said, Why are you breaking the Sabbath law? Jesus replied, Haven t you read what David and his companions did when they were hungry? He broke the Law by going into God s house and eating the bread of the presence, which only the priests can eat. He also gave some of the bread to his companions. Then he said to them, The Human One is Lord of the Sabbath. Luke 6:1-11

  3. On another Sabbath, Jesus entered a synagogue to teach. A man was there whose right hand was withered. The legal experts and the Pharisees were watching him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. They were looking for a reason to bring charges against him. Jesus knew their thoughts, so he said to the man with the withered hand, Get up and stand in front of everyone. He got up and stood there. Jesus said to the legal experts and Pharisees, Here s a question for you: Is it legal on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it? Looking around at them all, he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. So he did and his hand was made healthy. They were furious and began talking with each other about what to do to Jesus. Luke 6:1-11

  4. OPENING PRAYER Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. Melt us. Mold Us. Fill Us. Use Us. Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on not some of us, but all of us. Holy One, thank You for the gift of Your presence. With every breath, we are made anew. Reveal Yourself to us as the Great I Am and speak through the Scriptures, hymns, and experiences that are lifted before You this day. By the Power of Your Holy Spirit, move among and in spite of us. Remind us of who we are, why we exist, and what we are here to do for Your glory and for the transformation of Your world. In the beauty of silence, and as we communicate with one another, lead us. Interpreter of our collective cries and transformer of our groans, help us to deeply understand and have mercy upon one another. We are Yours, wholly Yours, and we live to glorify Your Name both now and forever. In Jesus Name, we pray. Amen.
