Health & Safety Health & Safety Reminders Ensure that all hazardous work has been risk assessed and the information disseminated If using lasers, ensure that Colin Chu colin.chu@ucl.ac.uk is aware of the project If undertaking GM work ensure that Amanda Carr a.carr@ucl.ac.uk is aware of the project An inventory of all chemicals should be held by each lab and copied to lab managers If you have concerns about health & safety you can report them to: Your line manager The Departmental Safety Officer The Institute Manager Your Union Rep The Institute Director Area Safety Advisor Bodrul Azad bodrul.azad@ucl.ac.uk
Health & Safety You should report all Accidents & incidents Near misses Hazard observations Report here https://www.ucl.ac.uk/safety If a hazard needs urgent attention also contact the DSO, the porters or your Lab Manager immediately Reporting near misses and hazards can prevent an accident from happening. Together we can prevent harm and ill health
Buildings & maintenance Reporting buildings faults & problems If you notice any faults or problems in IoO (e.g. broken lights, doors not closing properly, dripping taps, mice) please let the porters or Lab Managers know and report them here https://www.ucl.ac.uk/maintenance-service-requests/ Furniture In addition to central UCL, we have a store of furniture in IoO. Please do not dispose of or move furniture around between rooms without consulting the Lab Management team ioo.labmanagers@ucl.ac.uk Food & drink We have an ongoing problem with mice. Please ensure all food items are stored in sealed containers and that waste food is disposed of in the designated food caddies/disposal bins Check out the frothy coffee machine in the common room, all hot drinks just 1.00
Turn off lights, A/C and non-essential equipment when leaving the room and at night Adjust ULT freezers to -70oC, saves 30% electricity Keep fume cupboards clear and sashes closed
Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Go veggie Refuse plastic bags & cutlery when buying your lunch Be mindful of energy consumption Think before booking international flights, are there alternatives?
